Matt's Personal Journey

The past few months have been transformative, both professionally and personally. Having recently graduated from SAIT's Interactive Design Diploma (IDD) program, I had the unique opportunity to put my freshly-honed skills to work through a rewarding collaboration with Women in Need Society (WINS). This partnership allowed me to deepen my craft in storytelling, videography, and editing, resulting in content that resonated deeply with the community. Below are two videos i recently cerated for WINS IWD evbent.

Alla's Journey

For the video about Alla, I began by immersing myself in her world—listening to her experiences fleeing Ukraine, understanding the challenges she faced settling in Canada, and pinpointing the heart of her story: resilience against all odds. Sketching storyboards helped me experiment with pacing and visual rhythms, while early prototypes let me test narrative arcs that highlighted her strength and vulnerability. After crafting an initial cut, I gathered feedback from the WINS team and trusted peers to refine pacing, and color grade for emotional tone.

Alphonsine's Journey

Capturing Alphonsine’s empowerment story required earning her trust from the outset—conducting pre-interview calls, visiting her workspace, and truly listening to how WINS programs transformed her life. I identified three core moments her arrival in Calgary, her first training session, and her triumph as a Warehouse Ready graduate—and structured the narrative to flow like a verse and chorus. Early edits explored grainy textures to symbolize uncertainty, transitioning to crisp footage to echo her growth. I tightened the narrative flow, refined audio transitions, and enhanced text overlays to reinforce key messages without overwhelming the viewer.
